Best Guided Moose Hunts in Alaska
|
REMOTE CABIN-NOWITNA RIVER
Willow Air is doing a limited number of guided moose hunts out of our cabin in some of the best moose hunting country Alaska has to offer. This country is extremely remote and we are very fortunate to have a rustic, but dry and comfortable cabin there. This country is hard to access and over the years there has been little to no hunting pressure from anyone else. We have never seen another hunter at or up river of our cabin. That is unheard of and I know of no other place like it anywhere in Alaska. There is only one other guide in the area and we have an agreement with him that we will not hunt in his area and he will not hunt in ours. Most guides operating in this part of the country work out of tents, but with this hunt you have the luxury to hunt out of a warm and dry cabin. This makes it much easier to fight the unpredictable weather that Western Alaska sometimes dishes out. |

| This is a draw area so you must plan early as drawing applications must be in by December 30 for the next year’s September hunt. This is the reason we have not hunted this area every year but we have always been 100% successful on this hunt with all bulls over 60 inches. We had two hunters on this hunt in 2008 James Wendt and his son, Ben Wendt. They harvested 64” and 67” trophy moose. We did not hunt this area in 2009 and in 2010 we had two hunters Douglas Wolfe and Andrew Romain who harvested 64” and 67” bulls. This past season 2011 we had two hunters Kirk Woods and his son Jeremy. They both harvested nice bulls. Jeremy’s bull was right at 60” and Kirk’s was 57” but a very nice bull. We did not hunt this area in 2007 or 2006. In 2005 we had two self-guided hunters in the cabin, Salvatore Carlomango and Bob Wozniak, both avid bow hunter from New York. We dropped them off and four days later they called on their satellite phones and let us know they were done and ready to be picked up. Salvatore had killed his 60 ½” bull at 10 yds. With a single arrow, and Bob had made an amazing shot at 75 yds. Killing his 63 ½” bull with a single arrow also. | ||

We will be limiting it to four hunters for the entire season, but most seasons we only have two hunters total. Another advantage you will have hunting with Willow Air is the fact we own our own airplanes and don’t have to rely on someone else to fly you in and out of the bush. Once at the cabin, hunting will be done with a jet boat making it possible to cover many miles a day in search of that trophy bull. Hunts will be 12 days with day 1 and day 12 being fly days and ten full days of hunting with one guide and a jet boat for each hunter, optimizing your chances for success. This is truly one of, if not the best moose hunts in Alaska; but with the remoteness and the logistics of getting in and out it is a very expensive area for us to do, especially if we keep the hunters to a minimum. Most outfitters would bring many more hunters into this area but we believe that would hurt the trophy quality of the animals and the quality of the hunt. There are also black bear, wolf, and wolverine in the area and can be taken at no additional charge (tags must be purchased before the hunt.) Grizzly bear and the occasional caribou can also be taken for a trophy fee.
Hunt dates - Sept. 4-15 or Sept. 15-26 Cost: $17,500 for 12 days (10 full days of 1x1 hunting) (This is a draw area for moose and applications are due by Dec. 30 of the year before the hunt.) |
