GUIDED MOOSE HUNTS
Willow air is now offering guided moose hunts in the Innoko National Wildlife Refuge. The Innoko Wildlife refuge is divided into 3 exclusive guide-use areas. We were awarded one of these areas on the lower part of the Innoko 2 years ago. We have just been awarded the other 2 exclusive guide-use areas beginning in 2012, making us the only guide on the entire refuge which is 3,850,000 acres or approx. 6000 square miles. This is the first time since the refuge was established that one guide has had the entire refuge. This area has some of the best moose hunting country that Alaska has to offer. This country is extremely remote and we are very fortunate to have an exclusive in this area.

On our lower Innoko guide-use area we harvested two nice bulls on a guided hunt this past fall. Clinton Welding harvested his 57-in. bull with a bow at five yds. And his partner Bill Davis harvested a nice 61-in. bull with a rifle. We have done self-guided hunts on the upper part of the refuge in the past with very good success with our average bull over 60-ins. This past season our success was over 70% on these self-guided hunts. The upper part of the refuge has not had a guide hunting there for many years so our guided hunts should be very successful. I have always preferred the upper part of the refuge but this is the first time I will be able to take guided hunters in there. This hunt will be done out of comfortable tent base camps with spike camps to get into remote areas.
This hunt is fully guided and outfitted with a full kitchen and cook at our base camps. Once in camp, hunting will be done from boats with either a prop or get engine making it possible to cover many miles a day in search of that trophy bull. Most hunting will be done close to the river with minimal walking. Another advantage you will have hunting with Willow Air is that fact we own our own airplanes and don’t have to rely on someone else to fly you in and out of the bush. The moose season is 16 days long so we will be doing two 8 day 1x1 hunts. |

Sometimes during this 16-day season the bulls will be in full rut making it much easier to call bulls in. For this reason we have come up with another hunt that puts you there at the right time no matter what part of the season it is in. This hunt will be 18 days with 16 days of hunting 2x1. If you have a hunting partner and you can take the time this is by far the best moose hunt you will find anywhere. If hunting is slow and you want to stay at camp and fish for a day while your partner hunts then you can hunt the next day while he stays at camp and relaxes. Then when the time is right you are both there to get that trophy bull. If you prefer the shorter hunt it will be 10 days with 8 days of hunting with one hunter to one guide optimizing your chances for success. There are also black bear, wolf, and wolverine in the area that can be taken at no additional charge (tags must be purchased before the hunt.) Grizzly bear can also be taken for a trophy fee (plus tag.)
Cost: $13,500 for 10 days 1x1 (8 days of hunting)or $14,500 (per person) for 18 days 2x1 (16 days of hunting) (The entire hunting season) |
